The current building was reconstructed in 1958 on the site of the original building, where BC was proclaimed a British Colony in 1858.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1598\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 900px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nancyduckhildebrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-big-house-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1598 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nancyduckhildebrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-big-house-2.jpg\" alt=\"Big House Fort Langley collage\" width=\"900\" height=\"652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nancyduckhildebrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-big-house-2.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.nancyduckhildebrand.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-big-house-2-300x217.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Progress shot 2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I built my &#8220;Big House&#8221; out of an old receipt, which I have from my great grandmother&#8217;s old papers. I love the different shades of brown, and the marks that age, pencil, ink, and the carbon on the back of the receipts achieve.<\/p>\n<p>In tune with the rest of the series, I used hand-painted papers, old papers, music sheets, etc.; mainly torn and collaged using acrylic gel medium.
