December light

The light at four reminded me of winter in Saskatchewan. Golden glowing against the houses and bare trees.  The plus ten weather here drew me outside, and the light made everything photogenic.  The trees’ shadows against the stucco.  The wires, the birds, the streets, the garbage trampled to the pavement.

I’m finally working family history treasures into paintings. I want to do series of work rather than trying to cram everything into one piece.  I already have plans for the next one about my great aunt – I have a rough copy of her letter applying for teaching jobs, newspaper clippings of teaching positions available (this is in the 1940s), photos.  The one I’m doing now is about my great grandparents’ house – the house where I got all of these papers and old things.
