A little creative inspiration: Danielle Hession and Shawn McNulty

I discovered a couple of successful artists tonight who are quite different from each other, yet both their work resonates with me. They are both excelling in styles of painting I love (though I have been trying to combine them with varying degrees of success).

Danielle Hession is a Toronto collage artist whose graphic design background is evident in her work. Like me, she is fascinated with old stuff: photos, documents, letters. She’s able to mix these ingredients skillfully with clean, interesting composition and a simple colour palette that brings CMYK to mind.

Right away, I noticed the Rothko influence in Minnesota artist Shawn McNulty‘s extensive abstract paintings. I love the distressed and colourful compositions!

These are two artists you should visit, at least online.
